Introducing the author of
"The IDEAL DIET for Human Health",
Jan McBride, M.D.

Hello. I am very pleased that you are visiting this web site, and am extremely excited about the new information about proper dieting that I discovered in my independent professional research. For me, the most interesting aspect about all of this is that all of these pieces of information have been known for some time, and are present in a basic nutritional textbook, but they have been scattered between complex biochemical explanations from which I had to extract them before putting them together to create the full picture.

I believe this is why we have been struggling with incorrect diet information for so many years. The recent controversies over low carb versus low fat diets are examples of this scenario. These conflicting opinions by experts cause much confusion among the public. I believe any person can understand the basic facts about human metabolism that are necessary to be secure in using a healthy diet for weight loss and maintenance, and for ongoing good health. This is what has motivated me to produce my publications and this website.

My Background

I received my M.D. degree at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida in 1984, after obtaining a B.S. degree in Biochemistry at the same University in 1980. (Go GATORS!) I completed residency training in Family Practice in Daytona Beach, Florida in 1987 and have been Board Certified in the specialty of Family Practice since that time.

I maintained a full-time office practice in Family Medicine from 1987 to 1998, first in Deltona, Florida and subseqently in Orlando, Florida. During these years I treated patients of all ages as the primary caregiver for all health problems, while at the same time promoting preventive medicine and encouraging my patients to decrease health risk factors with lifestyle changes and early detection measures. I treasure fond memories of many patients I developed close relationships with, and if you are visiting this site I want to say "Hi - please send me an e-mail and let me know how you are."

Since 1998 I have been living in the U.S. Commonwealth of Puerto Rico with my husband, Jose deJesus, who grew up here. I took time off from medical practice for 2 years while waiting for licensing here. It was during that time that I performed independent research in the area of diet, especially the low carbohydrate diet.

My nutrition research led me into a new area of medicine known by most as "Antiaging Medicine." I have researched and studied this field for the past 2 years and now have a medical practice in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico where I combine both disciplines. I provide services in Anti-Aging Medicine and Medical Nutrition, including weight loss programs. I use the principles described in DIET TRUTHS REVEALED with the weight-loss patients in my practice with great success.

I do not fault any practicing physicians for having limited knowledge about diet. First, we were taught the very complex biochemical principles during our schooling and training but, as I said previously, no one ever put the pieces together to give us a valid method of assessing any dietary practice. Second, the practice of medicine requires so much continual study in the specific field of the physician that little time is left over for less critical subjects. I hope you will consider this when you talk to your doctor about dietary issues, and let him/her know about "DIET TRUTHS REVEALED: The IDEAL DIET for Human Health", which can give them a quick review of the science they already know in a format they have not seen before.

Sincerely,
